Basement Flooding in West Rogers Park
This project was completed in Chicago’s West Rogers Park neighborhood after we received an urgent call from a concerned homeowner. The customer stated her basement drains were clogged, and to her alarm, water was beginning to back up into her home, threatening her property. Our team was dispatched immediately to assess the situation. After a thorough examination of the basement problem, it became clear that the issue was not a simple clog but a more serious problem with the home’s main sewer line. Our licensed plumbers have the state-of-the-art tools and extensive training required to diagnose and resolve any sewer line problem, no matter how complex.
Initial Drain Cleaning Services
With a high-powered drain cleaning machine, our plumber first attempted to unclog the drain from the basement clean-out access point. When this proved unsuccessful, another powerful drain-cleaning machine was utilized to try and clear the overflowing pipe from an existing flood control system. Despite our team’s best efforts, both attempts were unsuccessful, indicating a more significant obstruction or failure within the system. It is critically important to treat such issues as soon as possible, as persistent drain clogs can lead to immense pressure building up within the pipes, which can cause leaking pipes, burst pipes, and even more severe water damage.
A Broken Sewer Line is Discovered
To get a clear picture of what was happening inside the pipe, a sewer camera inspection was performed. This advanced diagnostic tool allowed us to navigate the length of the sewer line and pinpoint the exact location of the blockage. Our team was able to better diagnose the sewer line issue after using a specialized location transmitter attached to the camera, which sends a signal from the camera head to a receiver at the surface. This technology showed us that the sewer line had completely broken off near the foundation wall of the house, which was the root cause of the backup.
Comprehensive Sewer Drain Repair
In order to provide a lasting solution and prevent future flooding of the basement, our expert plumbers determined that a repair at the source was necessary. The job required our team to carefully excavate the pipe in the basement floor and a corresponding section on the exterior of the foundation wall to fully access and repair the damaged sewer drains. A new, durable sewer drain pipe was then professionally installed, going through the foundation wall to connect the home’s plumbing to the main sewer line.
It’s not always obvious when you need a major sewer repair or have to replace a sewer line entirely. Sometimes the symptoms are as simple as a slow drain in a single sink, an unusual gurgling sound, or as urgent as a major basement flood. Whether your home needs a complete sewer line replacement or a thorough sewer line cleaning, our experts are equipped and ready to help.
